Course review – Stonecutters Ridge GC

Located approximately 45 minutes from Sydney’s CBD, Stonecutter Ridge opened to the public in mid 2012. Recently ranked in the top 100 courses in Australia this course is definitely worth the trip out to Western Sydney.
Being one of the new golf courses in Sydney, the clubhouse is quite modern with affordable dining and drinks prices. There is a TAB and pokies room for those who enjoy a punt after golf!

Stonecutters is a great track. The opening 4 holes are EXTREMELY generous driving holes and good way to get your round going. The Greg Norman design hits you in the face early with some great fairway and greenside bunkering on all holes.

With fast fairways and firm greens, scoring is reasonably tough, however the generous fairways give you a chance to shoot some low scores. Beware however of missing the fairway as the result is usually a rehit. The long grass guzzles up any errant tee shot and a big score can be had if your tee shots miss their target (tip of the day, stay out of the long grass…there a few snakes on this course!!!)

It is a soft finish to a tough course with a 144m par 3 (which is a quite a boring hole) and 493m par 5 which is often reached with an iron for the second shot due to the prevailing breeze.

Even with this soft finish, Stonecutters is one of our favourite golf courses in NSW. Great practice facilities, great golfing and great club house!
